Ingredients of Naan Khatai

  1. Prepare 2 Cups of all purpose Flour.
  2. You need 1 Cup of Powder Sugar.
  3. You need 1/2 tsp of Baking Powder.
  4. It's 1 Cup of Almonds.
  5. Prepare 1 Cup of Desi Ghee.
  6. It's 2 of Eggs (Yolks).

In its authentic recipe, ghee, maida, rava (sooji), gram flour (besan) and sugar are used but nowadays it is generally prepared without using gram flour and rava. The word Nankhatai is derived from Persian word Naan meaning bread and "Khatai" from a Dari Persian word meaning Biscuit. In Afghanistan and Northeast Iran, these biscuits are called Kulcha-e-Khataye. Kulcha is a type of Indian bread similar to Naan.

Naan Khatai instructions

  1. Take all ingredients..
  2. In a bowl add a Flour,Sugar,baking powder,almonds & Desi Ghee..
  3. Knead well with hands to make dough..
  4. Preheat oven 180°C..
  5. Place butter paper on baking tray or trays..
  6. Make Naan khatais & place them on baking tray atleast 2 inch apart as they expand while baking..
  7. Apply egg yolks on top..
  8. Bake for 10-15 minutes..
  9. (Note: They will firm up once they cool so don't worry if they seems soft)..
  10. Naan khatai ready to eat..
  11. Serve with Tea or Coffee..

Combine flour, sooji, salt, powdered sugar, and vanilla essence in a large mixing bowl. Add ghee and mix until well blended. Knead until it forms a soft pliable dough. Naan Khatai is an Indian Shortbread often made with flour and a combination of semolina or gram flour or rice flour and spiced with cardamom.
